Put On Your Dancing Shoes

They say that “Life is about learning to dance in the rain”. Dance makes people come together, forget the woes of their lives and sway to music. It is a hidden language of the soul , a blend of semantics, training and technique.

College fest is the time for which all dance enthusiasts are waiting to showcase their performances and hard work of months. When it came to dance events, Anugoonj 2015 had a lot to offer from classical dance performances by demure artists to the highly anticipated street dance. New talents got a platform to exhibit their skills.

‘Nach Baliye’, the opening event of the fest was full of exuberance and gala. Performers from various colleges gave power-packed performances. Shesh and Bhawna from IINTM, Institute of Innovation in Technology and Management, got the crowd roaring from the sheer grace of their performance. ‘‘This time the performances were much better than the previous year. It was a joy to see people of my age dance with such effortlessness’’, said Mini from the audience. IINTM received the first prize followed by IITM, Institute of Information Technology and Management. Later in the day, the audience got a flavour of the Indian culture at the‘ Folk dance’ event held at the second stage. The dance groups were full of energy, vitality and enthusiasm and wore flamboyant costumes.

‘Choreography’ held at the same venue attracted a huge crowd. The heartbreaking performance by the students of Maharaja Surajmal Institute of Technology on the Peshawar attack had the onlookers in tears as they tried to portray the plight of young, innocent children after the attack. “Our team from USS has improved as compared to last year when we performed a piece on the social boycott of female cancer patients. This year the theme was, the undue pressure on children to perform in studies and it was portrayed very well”, said Richa , a performer from the team of USS, Anugoonj 2014.

Day 2 of Anugoonj 2015 witnessed a huge gathering of students eagerly waiting to see dynamic performances of ‘Footlose’ despite the heavy downpour. The crowd could not stop cheering as performers from GTBIT, NIEC, USS and JIIMS, VK rocked the stage. In spite of the technical glitches and bad weather, the student coordinators ensured that the event continued in a smooth manner. The winners of last year, GTBIT received the winning trophy, yet again followed by BPIT and NIEC as the first and second runners-up , respectively.
The main highlights of the final day were ‘Classical dance’ and the much-awaited ‘Street dance’.
Classical dance is an eclectic mix of grace, elegance and expressions. The event proved to be a delightful treat for lovers of this genre , who got to witness various Kathak and Bharatnatyam performances. Sanchita from HMR Institute got the first prize followed by Krithi from MBS.

The ‘Street dance’ was organized in the basketball court area. The crowd gathered to watch this event was enormous and uncontrollable. It took a while to manage the crowd as student coordinators formed large human chains to make space for the performers. The splendour of this event comes from the respect and awe of the participants and the audience who wait eagerly for this event every year. The performances were applauded and there was constant hooting and cheering after performances of TIPS, USS , MAIMS and Fairfield. The team of TIPS bagged the winning trophy followed by MAIMS and USS. The debut performance of USS in Street Dance was high-on-energy and was applauded by one and all. Their hard work and diligence was reflected in the way they performed. The team from TIPS won the first prize followed by MAIMS and USS.
